What we treat

Conditions
seen in this specialty.

We accept these as primary diagnoses. If you're not sure where your case fits, a 60-minute evaluation maps it correctly on day one.

  • Back & neck pain

Movement evaluation, postural assessment, and progressive home exercise programming work remarkably well over video.

  • Post-surgical follow-up

Once you're past the early in-clinic phase, video check-ins for home program progression keep recovery on track.

  • Vestibular & balance issues

Gaze stabilization, habituation, and home balance training translate well to video. We supplement with in-clinic visits for hands-on canalith repositioning when needed.

  • Lymphedema self-care coaching

Manual lymph drainage technique coaching, compression garment guidance, and home program management between in-clinic visits.

  • Geriatric maintenance programs

For older adults with stable conditions, telehealth allows ongoing PT without the transportation barrier.

  • Out-of-state family member support

You're local — your parent or sibling who needs guidance isn't. We can't provide PT across state lines, but we can coach you on supporting them.

How we treat it

The clinical playbook
for this specialty.

01Modality

Secure HIPAA-compliant video

We use HIPAA-compliant telehealth platforms — not Zoom or FaceTime. Your visit is private and documented like any in-clinic encounter.

02Modality

Live movement assessment

You position your camera so we can see the relevant movement. We assess range of motion, strength, balance, and movement quality in real time.

03Modality

Personalized home exercise program

We demonstrate exercises on camera and watch you perform them. Corrections happen live — same as in clinic, just over video.

04Modality

Progress tracking between sessions

Objective measures we can capture remotely — range of motion, single-leg balance time, pain levels with specific activities. Progress shows up in the numbers.

05Modality

Coordinated with in-clinic visits when needed

Some treatments require hands-on care. For most patients, a hybrid approach works best — periodic in-clinic visits for manual therapy, virtual visits for progression and check-ins.

06Modality

Same therapists, same standard of care

Your telehealth visit is with Dr. Omar Hussien or Lamiaa Hefni — not a generic remote PT. The continuity matters.

What to expect

The phased timeline
most patients follow.

Honest milestones. Cases vary, but most look something like this. We re-test at every phase so progress is measured, not assumed.

  1. 01Tech setup

    Before your first visit

You'll need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a working camera; a stable internet connection; and a few feet of clear space to move. We send simple setup instructions before your appointment.

  2. 02Visit 1

    Evaluation

A full 45–60 minute initial evaluation. We watch your movement, ask thorough questions, and build your plan. You leave with a clear understanding and an initial home program.

  3. 03Follow-ups

    Ongoing visits

Typical follow-ups run 30–45 minutes. We check progress, watch you do your exercises, make adjustments, and add new work as you improve.

  4. 04Hybrid model

    When in-clinic is needed

For conditions that benefit from periodic hands-on care, we mix virtual and in-clinic visits. Many patients prefer this — convenient most of the time, with hands-on care when it matters.

Why Progressive PT

Why Progressive PT
leads this specialty.

Telehealth PT works better than most people expect, and worse than in-clinic for certain conditions. We're honest about both. For back pain, neck pain, post-surgical follow-up, and vestibular maintenance, virtual visits are highly effective. For acute manual therapy needs and complex lymphedema treatment, in-clinic is better. We help you figure out what fits your situation.

Common questions

About telehealth
therapy.

  • For many conditions, yes — the research supports virtual PT as comparable to in-clinic for things like chronic low back pain, neck pain, and home exercise program coaching. For others (acute injuries, hands-on manual therapy needs, complex vestibular cases), in-clinic is better. We tell you honestly what fits your situation.

  • Most commercial insurances and Medicare now cover telehealth PT, though coverage rules vary. We verify before your first visit. Some plans require an initial in-clinic visit before virtual follow-ups; others allow virtual from the start.

  • Yes — and most patients do. The hybrid approach works really well. In-clinic visits for hands-on treatment and detailed assessment, virtual for progression check-ins and home program coaching.

  • No. PT licensure is state-specific. We can only treat patients physically located in Illinois at the time of the visit. If you're traveling out of state, we typically pause treatment until you're back home.

  • We'll help. Most telehealth platforms are simpler than they used to be — usually just clicking a link. If you're not comfortable with video visits, in-clinic is always an option.
